Frederick Sawyer, Sr. House

 

DID YOU KNOW?

For the First time the Frederick Sawyer, Sr. house will be on our Historic Home Tour May 7, 2005. This is now the home of Larry and Paula Appleby. This house is especially significant to Trinity Church in the light that Mr. Sawyer was a prominent member of Trinity For over 70 years .... serving as Secretary and Treasurer for 36 years and senior warden for 12 years. He also wrote a history of Trinity Church in 1951, "A Memorial to Rosa Sawyer, which he dedicated to the loyal and courageous women of Trinity Church who have never failed in their service to the uplifted Christ.

Mr. Sawyer was born in East Grinstead England December 28,1869, coming to the United States in 1886 (at the age of 17), and to Apalachicola in 1888.

On June 27,1895 Frederick Sawyer, Sr. married Rosa Laduska Sharit in Trinity Church. Mrs. Sawyer died July 11, 1953, and Mr. Sawyer died on April 24,1965 (at the age of 96). Both received their burial rites from Trinity church.

The Sawyer House was built around 1901 on Avenue E. It was moved to 91-17th St. by Anita Gregory Grove, director of the Apalachicola Bay Chamber of Commerce, as her residence.
